Brown Bag it with MoCNA—Emmi Whitehorse

Fri, February 17, 2017, 12:30 pm1:30 pm

| Free

Bring your lunch and join artist Emmi Whitehorse (Navajo) as she discusses her art practice. See Whitehorse’s work in New Impressions: Experiments in Contemporary Native American Printmaking. Whitehorse is a painter and printmaker, born in Crownpoint, NM, she grew up northeast of Gallup, NM in a family where only the Navajo language was spoken. In 1980, Whitehorse earned her Bachelor of Arts in painting and Masters from UNM, majoring in printmaking and minoring in art history.

Whitehorse’s paintings draw upon a personal iconography, based on reflections of her natural surroundings. She brings together Navajo cosmological perspectives with abstraction in her work. Her work is represented in public collections throughout North America, Europe, Japan, Uzbekistan, and Morocco. Whitehorse’s work is deliberately apolitical.

This free lunchtime series features guest speakers, open dialogue, and engaging discussions around contemporary Native art.
