Migration towards Our Summer Camp, Pitseolak Ashoona (Inuit), Lithograph, 26”x 20”, 1904–1983

Join IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Art’s (MoCNA) tri-monthly book club called, The MoCNA Reader. Inspired by our exhibition, Akunnittinni: A Kinngait Family Portrait. The museum takes up People from Our Side: A Life Story with Photographs and Oral Biography by Peter Pitseolak and Ann Hanson. Peter Pitseolak (Inuit), the first native Baffin Island photographer, was born in the eastern Canadian Arctic in 1902. As a child he lived a traditional Inuit camp life that his ancestors had known, Pitseolak provides a dynamic narrative of how change came to Baffin Island throughout his lifetime.

Stop by and see Akunnittinni: A Kinngait Family Portrait for inspiration and participate in a lively discussion. Purchase your book online or at the Museum Shop.
