IAIA 2021 Open House
This year included a mixture of in-person and livestream events, all of which were broadcasted from the IAIA Campus at 83 Avan Nu Po Road, Santa Fe, NM 87508. We requested that on-campus visitors be fully vaccinated and wear face coverings. Virtual “visitors” were able to take virtual tours of the campus, view a live bronze pour, attend live class sessions, and more—all from the comfort of their homes.
Visitors had a chance to try an array of menu options made by our on-campus café Bon Appetit. There were braised short rib empanadas, chicken satay kebabs, salmon bacon with pureed mango salsa, portobello bruschetta, and buffalo and roasted poblano stuffed mini peppers—all made fresh.
The Open House was the perfect opportunity for anyone interested in IAIA to come learn about our mission, programs, and community.

Mission and History
“To empower creativity and leadership in Native Arts and cultures through higher education, lifelong learning, and outreach.” At IAIA our mission is more than a statement, it is the on-going objective of all that we do and all of our highly talented and dedicated faculty and staff.
Spirit and Vision—Our First Priorities
At IAIA, the spirit and vision of Native American and Alaska Native people is our first priority. Our goal is empowerment through education, economic independence, and expression and enhancement of artistic and cultural traditions. Since its founding on October 1, 1962, IAIA has provided academic excellence to both Native and non-Native populations who give witness to the ways in which IAIA’s inspirational environment has emboldened their lives.
We take great pride in preparing students for lives rich with ideas, expression, and moral values. With renowned faculty, many of whom are Native leaders and IAIA graduates, we ensure a continual flow of leadership to carry on our heritage and traditions.
IAIA is a place where traditions are rediscovered, explored, and deepened, where your art and cultural identity are celebrated and revered. It is a place of welcome that you will always be a part of and that will always be a part of you.
Named one of the top art institutions by UNESCO and the International Association of Art, IAIA takes its rightful place among the leading art institutions of the nation. Our architecturally significant buildings and campus, state-of-the-art studios and facilities, and location in one of the nation’s largest and most vibrant art markets make IAIA the ideal place to begin, enrich, or expand your artistic and educational journey. If you are ready to stretch your limits, redefine your boundaries, hone your skills, and discover the best of yourself, then IAIA is the place for you.
We believe in
- Collaboration, the joining together for student success,
- Excellence, by upholding high standards for students, faculty, and staff,
- Creativity, by encouraging fearless expression in arts and life,
- Respect, expressed by fostering an understanding of cultures, perspectives, and identities, and
- Integrity, which grows from demanding honesty, accountability, and responsibility to oneself and the world at large.
