Junior Master Gardener Program

Nov 6, 2020

The IAIA Land-Grant program provides outreach to youth and their parents through the free Junior Master Gardener (JMG) program. The JMG program is for youth ages 6–17 and engages children in innovative “hands-on” group and individual learning experiences that provide a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment, and cultivate the mind, all while being sensitive to individual’s cultural practices.

This fall, the JMG program will operate online, in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. While the JMG program normally serves youth from the Santa Fe Public School System and New Mexico’s tribal communities, the remote session this fall allows youth from all over the country to join.

Schedule

Sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday 3:30–4:30 pm, October 27–December 9, 2020.

“[Our children] enjoy it and it’s their favorite time of the week!”
Nicolas Begay

Junior Master Gardenar Parent

“[Our whole family] is loving the JMG ZOOM sessions!”
Dustin Gill

The JMG program will focus on the story of seeds, knowledge of how plants grows and what they need to be healthy, and lessons on the interconnectedness of the food web, examining our connection to plants and the natural world. Though the JMG can’t meet in person, each registrant will receive program activity packages in the mail so that they can participate alongside us at home.
