Fri, October 19, 2018, 7:00 am10:00 am

| Free

Free course—earn CEUs. For more information, contact jbreaker@iaia.edu or call (505) 424-2308. Register early—limited spaces available. Location: Library and Technology Center Building, Auditorium

Terry Vinson (Comanche) and James Wooden Legs (Cheyenne) will lead a three-hour exploration in Deaf Awareness in Native communities including introductory information on Plains Indian Sign Language (PISL), American Sign Language (ASL), and Deaf Culture. Workshop participants will be able to identify issues affecting Native deaf communities historically and in the present. They will also be able to compare Plains Indian Sign Language and how it is different from American Sign Language. Hopefully, exposure to deaf culture and issues will lead to the ability to explain how to create more inclusive community for deaf people.
