On Wednesday, March 23, IAIA will host a Community Gathering event, Indigenizing Love: Supporting Our LGBTQIA+ Community. Featuring special guest and alum Ryan Young (Ojibwe) ’19, co-author of Indigenizing Love: A Toolkit for Native Youth to Build Inclusion, the event will give a general overview of the Toolkit, and aims to build policy in support our LGBTQIA+ community at IAIA.

IAIA wants to emphasize the importance of creating a safe and more inclusive environment for our IAIA LGBTQIA+ and Two-Spirit community members. IAIA has included the addition of gender-neutral and non-binary references to our style guide (pg. 16) and is encouraging IAIA faculty and staff members to update their email signatures to include pronouns to normalize the use of preferred pronouns. Our community members should feel safe to express who they are, and we hope to create a more welcoming and accepting environment for all.
